Egdon Resources has been active in the East Midlands from 2000. Historically the company’s activities have concentrated on conventional exploration and develo pment. The margins of the Humber Basin have been a focus following the acquisition of the Keddington oil field in 2006 and Encore Resources onshore assets in 2010.
Activity has included
01
The further development of Keddington
02
The discovery in 2014 of the Wressle oil field which was brought onstream in February 2021 under natural flow and after a proppant squeeze the full production rate of 500 b/d was achieved in August 2021
03
The discovery of an oil column in Dinantian carbonates with the drilling of Biscathorpe-2 where a farm out of a proposed side-track (subject to planning consent) may also lead to a discovery in Westphalian sandstones
04
The progression of farm out’s of company making prospect at North Kelsey.
05
The drilling by IGas of the Basin Opening Shale exploration well Springs Road-1 in 2019
Egdon has built a significant shale exploration acreage position in the Gainsborough Trough through legacy interests, farm-ins, the 2014 Alkane Energy acquisition the 14th Licence round and other acquisitions. The Basin was the subject of intense bidding in the 14th Round which saw INEOS and Cuadrilla enter the play.
Egdon subsequently farmed out some of this acreage to Total and planning consent for the first shale exploration wells in the Basin Springs Road-1&2 operated by IGas on PEDL140 was granted in November 2016 (EDR 14.5% carried). In November 2017 INEOS acquired certain of total’s interests in the Gainsborough Trough shale play.
01
In 2018 IGas and partner INEOS drilled a shale exploration well in the Basin at Tinker lane south west of the planned Springs Road well but failed to find the targeted shale Bowland Shale at this marginal location. The well did however find encouraging gas content in the Millstone Grit sequence
02
INEOS had indicated that it planned to drill up to 6 vertical shale exploration wells in the Wellbeck Low sub-basin close to Egdon’s PEDL001 and PEDL130 licences and had submitted 3 planning applications as of August 2018. Two were granted on appeal and one remains to be determined.
03
INEOS also shot around 150 km² of 3D seismic in this area in 2017/18
