Northern England
The Cleveland Basin of northern England is a gas prone area on the western and northern margins of the prolific Southern Gas Basin of the North Sea, located largely in the county of Yorkshire. Gas is produced from Permian and Carboniferous age rocks in the southern part of the licence and Egdon have recently discovered gas at Kirkleatham and Westerdale.
Egdon's Licences:
- PEDL068 (Egdon operated) - 20% Interest - 195 km2
- PEDL071 (Egdon operated) - 25% interest - 250 km2
- Offshore Block 42/26(RWE operated) - 10% interest
- Offshore Block 42/27 (RWE operated) - 10% interest
Play Types:
- Zechsteion carbonate gas play (produces at Malton, Pickering, Marishes and Kirby Misperton)
- Leman Sandstone gas play (produces from Caythorpe and numerous offshore fields)
- Carboniferrous gas play (produces from Kirby Misperton)
Prospectivity:
- Kirkleatham-4 gas discovery - moving to production
- Kirkleatham gas field has gas storage potential
- Westerdale/Ralph Cross gas discovery - additional well being considered
- Fraisthorpe Leman Sandstone gas prospect (Burton Agnes-1 well suspended with gas shows)
- Tees Leman Sandstone gas prospect - dry hole
- Additional Zechstein, Leman and Carboniferous leads and prospects
Planned Activity:
- Development of Kirkleatham gas field
- Further evaluation of Westerdale- Ralph Cross gas accumulation
- Evaluation of suspended Burton Agnes-1 well for potential sidetrack to test up-dip area of Fraisthorpe prospect
